4. Medical Process

Medical Records Review: Your surrogate’s medical records will be reviewed and approved by the IVF clinic to ensure eligibility for the journey.

Psychological Evaluation: A licensed mental health professional will conduct a video call to assess your surrogate’s readiness for the journey. Results will be reviewed by the IVF clinic for clearance to proceed.

Medical Screening & Clearance: Your surrogate will complete comprehensive lab work at your IVF clinic, including a drug test, STD panel, vaccine tests, vitamin level checks, and an ultrasound to ensure she is fully prepared for the journey.

5. Legal Process

Legal Representation Retained - Both parties are assigned independent legal counsel to ensure fair representation. Your attorney will walk you through every detail of the contract, so you feel confident and supported.

Gestational Surrogacy Agreement (GSA) - This agreement outlines the rights, responsibilities, and payments for both you and your surrogate. Attorneys draft and finalize the legal agreement, once both parties are fully comfortable.

Notarization & Legal Clearance - Once your GSA is signed and notarized, the IVF clinic receives legal clearance to proceed with creating an embryo transfer calendar.

6. Medication & Transfer Calendar
As your surrogate prepares for embryo transfer, she will receive a detailed medication calendar outlining the specific medications and dosages she will need to take. This phase is critical for ensuring the embryo transfer is successful.

Surrogate Begins IVF Medications: Your surrogate will receive a calendar outlining her daily medications, dosages, and tentative embryo transfer date. The clinic will review this with her and make adjustments as needed.

Embryo Transfer Day: The embryo transfer will take place at the IVF clinic, where the embryos are stored, through a quick and minimally invasive procedure.

Pregnancy & Heartbeat Confirmation: Pregnancy is confirmed with bloodwork about 10 days after the embryo transfer. At around six weeks of pregnancy, an ultrasound confirms the baby’s heartbeat. This is a key milestone in the surrogacy journey!

7. Pregnancy Process
As the due date approaches, preparations for the arrival of your baby will intensify. Typically, delivery occurs at the hospital in your surrogate's home state unless alternative arrangements have been planned.

Pregnancy Monitoring & OB/GYN Care: The pregnancy will first be closely monitored at the IVF clinic. At around week 15, your surrogate will attend regular OB appointments to monitor her health and the baby’s progress. You will stay informed throughout the pregnancy, and your Journey Coordinator will provide guidance and support.

Pre-Birth Order (PBO): You will work with your legal team to establish the Pre-Birth Order to ensure you have parental rights over the baby at birth. Your attorney will also require your signature to finalize the PBO and will reach out to you to complete this step.

Final Preparations: At approximately 30 weeks, you’ll complete any remaining payments or adjustments and plan travel arrangements to ensure a smooth and stress-free delivery. This marks the final stage before welcoming your baby and completing your incredible journey.

8. Delivery Process - The Joyful Arrival of Your Baby!
Finally, the moment you’ve eagerly anticipated arrives: your baby's birth! Your support team will be there to help you navigate this emotional experience, ensuring you feel ready for the transition into parenthood.

Birth Plan & Delivery Day: Your surrogate will work with her OB/GYN to create a personalized birth plan that aligns with her medical needs and your preferences as intended parents. The plan will include details such as delivery method, pain management, and participation during the birth. On delivery day, you (or your representative) will be present at a hospital covered by your surrogate’s insurance network to welcome your baby.

Power of Attorney (POA): If you’re unable to attend the birth, you may assign a POA to represent your parental rights and ensure decisions are handled properly. This ensures that all legal and medical decisions can be properly handled on your behalf.

Surrogate Post-Delivery Support: After the birth, your surrogate will continue to receive care for her physical recovery, including follow-up OB appointments and any necessary medical support. Emotional well-being is also supported through ongoing check-ins from your Journey Coordinator, helping ensure a smooth transition during the postpartum period.

Taking Your Baby Home: Once the hospital discharge process is complete, you’ll bring your baby home - marking the joyful completion of your surrogacy journey and the beginning of your family story.
